GRILLE FUTURE GENERATIONS PROGRAMME · AGES 14–25

The future begins with
knowing your roots.

The programme is being developed to help young people of Ugandan heritage in the United Kingdom connect with their culture, identity and history while growing into confident future leaders.

The programme is intended for young people aged 14–25. Participants under 18 will take part only with appropriate consent from a parent, guardian or carer, and all activities will be supported by suitable safeguarding arrangements.

Young people growing up in Britain may have fewer opportunities to experience the languages, traditions and values of their family’s homeland. Grille will create practical ways to learn, participate and build relationships across generations.

CLAN DISCOVERY

What is
your clan?

A future guided activity will help participants explore their clan, totem, family traditions and greetings with trusted elders and verified cultural resources.

Do you know your clan?

Start with a parent, grandparent or trusted relative. Record the family account, then verify it with an appropriate cultural source.

Do you know your totem?

Learn its name, meaning and the responsibilities or customs associated with it. Avoid publishing sensitive family information online.

Can you introduce your heritage?

Practise a short introduction that includes your family roots, district, language and a cultural value you want to carry forward.

The Grille
Heritage Passport.

Each participant will build a personal record of cultural learning, community participation and leadership. The passport is planned as a developmental record, not an accredited qualification.

Short, consent-based video interviews can preserve community history while giving young people direct access to lived experience.

Summer Academy.

A flexible programme that could run as a three-day academy, a residential weekend or a longer summer experience, depending on funding, safeguarding and partner capacity. The themes below are examples, not a fixed timetable.
